Tired of the hot, steamy weather?
Ready to break out that sweet new sweater your aunt got you last year?
Ready to escape the desert island that is summer time television?

Well, guess what buck-a-roo, it’s fall and that means it’s premiere season!
Some shows that grace your flat screen are one off’s, never to be seen in pixel form again, but here’s a quick rundown of the standby, successful shows that you need to be watching this season!

Reality

The X-Factor
Whenever a reality show idea comes sprouting out of the mind of Simon Cowell, you know it’s a must watch – maybe that’s why the X-Factor remains such a huge hit with audiences everywhere. Cowell, along with judges Demi Lovato, Kelly Rowland and Pauline Rubio are sure to please audiences everywhere and crush the dreams of countless superstar hopefuls when the show kicks off for it’s third season in Sept. 11.Watch on Hulu (from September 11th)
Survivor
Arguably responsible for starting the whole reality show craze, Survivor has gone through a couple of fits and starts, but seems to have come to rest in a fairly solid position as it begins its 27thseason on CBS. This season features second-rate American Football player Brad Culpepper and host of other mortals as they attempt to fend for themselves in wilderness of Palaui Island, Philippines. Whoever plays in the game doesn’t matter – the show is just super fun to watch. Don’t miss it, for sure.Watch on CBS (from September 18th)
The Amazing Race
A cross between a nerve-racking game show and an off-the-wall reality series, The Amazing Race pits several teams of two people against each other as they race, quite literally, around the world, facing challenges, answering questions and collecting clues. Things get a bit insane as teams fall behind and get stranded in some flea-infested train station someplace – it’s simply a must watch if you like a solid laugh.Watch on CBS (from September 29th)

Comedy

New Girl
Oh, Zooey Deschanel you absolutely slay us right in our heart don’t yee? Yes, yes you do, and so does New Girl which is, quite simply, hilarious! After breaking up with her boyfriend, Zooey’s character, Jess, moves in with three other dudes and general hilarity ensues. Seriously, though all the show is absolutely hilarious and we… well, again… we just can’t get enough Zooey.Watch on Hulu (from September 17th)
How I Met Your Mother
This show has now taken its rightful place as the go to for solidly funny situational comedy. Jason Segal and Neil Patrick Harris are both dreamy and hilarious and the idiocrincrocies of the characters lineup to make a perfect storm of laughter. The story completely revolves around Ted, played by Josh Radnor, telling his children about how he met their mother – the whole show is a flashback! We love flashbacks! So do you! Don’t you?… you better…Watch on CBS (from September 23rd)
Modern Family
The quintessential modern comedy right here folks, it’s got everything! Along the same lines as The Office, Modern Family is filmed in the Mockumentary-style and man, does it work. Family members who can’t talk to each other, same-sex couples who are, possibly, the funniest two people alive, and Hayley, who described the feelings of every teen girl in the country with this quote, “Why were you guys yelling at us? We were way upstairs. Just text me.” It’s all there – tune in and view your life.Watch on Hulu/ABC (from September 25th)
Parks and Recreation
Starring, Amy Poehler, of Saturday Night Live fame, Parks and Recreation centers around Leslie Knope, played by Poehler, as she serves as the deputy director of the… well the parks and rec department in beautiful Pawnee Indiana and later, as a city council member. It’s a pretty accurate depiction of the idiocy that surrounds small town American politics, albeit, in jest. The 6th season opens with our protagonist traipsing the streets of London, very much out of her element – an American in Europe? Definitely a recipe for laughs.Watch on Hulu (from September 26th)

Drama/Action

Greys Anatomy
The perennial doctor drama is back for its 10th iteration, with the season surgically split in half; the second bit will begin February 24, 2014. A mix between an ER-style medical drama and a Days of Our Lives soap, Grey’s is one of the few shows on TV that really appeals to a huge swath of people. Countless writers have compared it to a cultural revolution, akin to Friends or Cheers. Begs the question, why aren’t you watching already?Watch on Hulu/ABC (September 26th)
Homeland
Ever since we first laid eyes on Damian Lewis as Captain Dick Winters in Band of Brothers (HBO), we have loved both his chops as an actor and his fiery red hair and he certainly doesn’t disappoint here either. Lewis, whose character’s name is Nicholas Brody, returns from serving as a Marine in Afghanistan a hero after being held captive by al-Qaeda operatives. His wife, however, believes he has been “turned” by the terrorists. Heck, even President Obama is on record as liking the show, so tune in for the roller coaster ride.Watch on Showtime (from September 29th)
The Arrow
Playing a bit off the success of the superhero genre of late never hurt anybody and it certainly isn’t going to hurt this show. Billionaire playboy Oliver Queen is presumed dead when his yacht disappears – he returns five years later, armed with a bow and a spiffy new attitude to clean up the Starling City. Hooded vigilantes, villains, damsels in distress; we’re all in for this one.Watch on Hulu (from Ocotober 10th)
